  • Midland Metro is a Light Rail System
     
  • ALTRAM is the consortium which designed, built and now operates Line 1 under a 23 year concession
     
  • ALTRAM partners are Travel West Midlands, John Laing plc and Ansaldo Trasporti
     
  • Metro trams run at least every 7 minutes during the daytime and every 10 minutes during the evenings and Sundays
     
  • The route is 20.4 km long and runs from Birmingham (Snow Hill) to Wolverhampton (St. George's)
     
  • Line 1 runs on the road for 2 kms, joining the Highway at Priestfield in Wolverhampton along the Bilston Road, Bilston Street to St. George’s
     
  • Trams have priority on the road section of the route
     
  • There are 23 tram stops along the route
     
  • All tram stops have CCTV fitted and are linked to the Metro Centre in Wednesbury via an intercom system, so if you need information you can get it on the platform
     
  • Midland Metro Line 1 is promoted by Centro and the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority
     
  • The system cost £145 million (£31 million of which is a European Grant)
     
  • Future Metro Line extensions proposed are: Birmingham City Centre from Snow Hill to Five Ways along Broad Street and Wednesbury to Brierley Hill via Dudley and Merry Hill.
